silicone rubber
Features and Benefits
Silicone is ideal for making reusable molds. The extremely stable, yet flexible material can be used particularly well in mold and model making. Thanks to the advantageous properties of silicone rubber, even complex objects with multi-dimensional undercuts can be perfectly reproduced with great attention to detail.
DIY! Make your own silicone molds and models
Silicone molds can be made quickly and easily by yourself. The silicone, which consists of two components, is mixed in the specified mixing ratio and then poured into the intended shape over the object to be duplicated. In the case of modeling silicone, on the other hand, the mass is pressed directly onto the object. After curing, the mold can then be filled with the appropriate casting compound.

Silicone rubber type 8
Type 8 kneading silicone is particularly well suited for molding objects that cannot be molded with liquid silicone, such as vertical objects or surfaces. As an all-rounder, it is also perfect for duplicating in model construction - especially smaller objects.
Application areas:
- Model & mold making
- Molding in the construction area
- Replications / production of small finished parts (theater, costume area, stage construction)
- Sealing and damping as a flexible sealing material (not heat-resistant)
- Castings for the creation of prototypes in industry and trade
- Use in the training area for quick presentations of all kinds
Application Materials:
- Water-soluble casting compounds: Xyrarock, Stewalin, Plastalin, Super, Keraflott, gypsum, Alabit, modeling plaster, concrete, cement
- Casting compounds containing solvents: cast resin (resin), epoxy resin, soap casting compound (soap glycerin), candle wax
That's how it works!
The last step is curing. Here the silicone has to harden completely in the time specified by the manufacturer, usually at 23°C. After final curing, the mold can be easily removed from the object. A soft silicone is recommended for molds of small objects. In contrast, hard silicones can be used very well for sealing. The hardened silicone mold can then be filled with various casting compounds. These differ again according to the type of silicone rubber selected. These are, for example, ceramics, plaster, concrete, casting resin, candle wax, etc.
